Speaking Truth to Power

When you see injustice or wrongdoing, how readily to you call it out?

Read Mark 6:14-29.

There are some stories in the bible that are unimaginably gruesome and horrific. We are meant to understand John’s beheading and Jesus’ crucifixion as being connected. Both stories show what happened to those who challenged the political systems and the power structures of the day. They show that there can be dire consequences when a person speaks truth to power.

When you see injustice or wrongdoing, how readily to you call it out? What is your approach when doing so? What are the possible consequences of doing so? In Ephesians 4:15, we read, “Speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” How would this verse affect the way you might address injustice or wrongdoing?

Pray God’s strength and protection over those who speak out over injustice.
