In the beginning, God speaks creation into being. God doesn’t just think about it; God doesn’t just try; God does. What a comfort it is to know that when God speaks, things happen! The outcome of God’s speaking may not be immediately visible to us, but many times it is.
Did you notice the beautiful sunrise this morning? That was God speaking. Did you hear from a friend over the holidays that you have not seen or heard from in a while? That was God speaking. Have you recovered from an illness or injury? That was God speaking. Did you have the strength and courage you needed to face a devastating diagnosis or to speak up in the face of wrongdoing? That was God speaking. Did you smile at a stranger or offer a kind word today? That was God speaking.
In prayer, spend time in silence, listening for the still, small voice of God.
