One Body

Through Jesus, we are joined together as members of one body.

Read Ephesians 2:11-22.

Here, Paul reminds the church of the unifying and re-membering power of Jesus. No matter what divisions we create, no matter what hostilities we nurture, no matter how distant we become from one another, through Jesus, we are continually being invited and drawn into the one household of God. Through Jesus, we are joined together as members of one body. It may be a body with a few aches and pains and smelly parts, but it is also a body with imagination, with the ability to create and appreciate beauty, and with a diversity of purpose. It is a body that, when one part is injured, other parts instinctively support and protect.

In what ways is our church functioning as a healthy body? Think about some of your favorite people in the church. What gifts do they bring to the body? Think about someone in the church with whom you struggle. What gifts do they bring?

In prayer, express gratitude for the unifying power of Jesus to bring health and wholeness to the body of Christ.
